[Springfield, MO – September 7, 2021] – Abacus CPAs, LLC is proud to announce that Shannon Terry, CPA, has been awarded the distinction of Trusted Adviser in Accounting as part of Springfield Business Journal’s 2021 Trusted Advisers.  The award ceremony will be held later today at DoubleTree Convention Center.

Terry, who joined the firm in September 2012 as a Staff Accountant, rejoined the firm in 2019 as Controller and oversees the firm’s internal accounting, including accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and benefits administration.

“As Controller, I’m in the unique position to work with all Abacus clients and employees.” says Terry, “I work diligently to take on these projects and put a solid effort into solving and improving our billing processes, accounts payable, accounts receivable, so each client has an excellent and lasting impression of Abacus from start-to-finish.”

“A Trusted Advisor should live the foundation centered on “People Deserve Better” and I know this is true.” Says Terry, “I am hardwired to do exactly what I say I will do, and as a result, I garner respect from others genuinely, including those who have a hard time trusting others. And I know this is exactly what a Trusted Advisor is dedicated to doing.”

She earned her Bachelor’s in Accounting in 2010, her Master’s in Accountancy with a certificate in Forensic Accounting in 2012, and her CPA license in 2015.

“My professional path always veers toward what will benefit others – clear communication, consistent bills, and genuine concern for understanding and follow-up.” says Terry, “I work to accomplish the major and minor changes needed – and always look at the whole picture for each client, even if I’m involved in just a tiny piece.  A holistic approach to client service ensures they have the best experience; they feel like a valued individual and stop problems before they start.”

Terry’s values have remained intact since she started with Abacus, understanding that Integrity is doing the right thing, even when no one is looking. It’s a value she still believes in today. She lives her values within her work, her community efforts, and her leadership in the firm: Terry currently chairs the firm’s Community Involvement Committee.

“I have a passion for Community Service and knew I could have a larger impact if I led the firm’s efforts.” said Terry, “As the chair of our Community Involvement Committee, I oversee multiple projects throughout the year, coordinate firm donations to local non-profits, and attend all service-based firm events. This unique role has helped me ensure that organizations receive needed funds and our firm grows its service mindset.”

Shannon was recently earned the distinction of the Abacus Value Award for Integrity, which recognizes an employee who displays Responsible, Trustworthy and Honest characteristics.  Terry, who has been commended as a moral compass, was a natural choice for the award this year because of her continued responsible dedication.
